Maia and Molissa met through Pulse Dance Company’s inaugural BLOOM choreography showcase in 2019. They share an interest in bringing dance into the natural environment to form connections and expand perspectives. This project stemmed from a desire for pandemic-safe creative collaboration and outdoor choreography. Each artist developed movement phrases for the lower and upper body independently. These phrases were woven together and manipulated for the two film settings. The final work you see was further shaped by unexpected elements Maia and Molissa encountered throughout the process. They embraced limitations including minimal in-person interaction, a short timeline, and Alaskan fall weather, allowing them to play with movement in new ways and experiment with the choreography of film editing. They extend gratitude to Pulse Dance Company for continuing to support local independent artists through opportunities like Freshly Squeezed!
